Living in Dubai has numerous advantages. Here is an overview of the main aspects that speak in favor of Dubai.
Taxes
The first point that many people think of is, of course, tax. From Dubai offers numerous advantages from a tax perspective, especially in direct comparison to Germany, Austria or other (European) countries. At a private level, you enjoy complete tax exemption and pay no taxes on income, capital gains, dividends and all other income.
At the entrepreneurial level, depending on turnover, you pay 0-9% tax with an allowance of USD 100,000, which is still excellent by international standards.
The bottom line is that much more of the money earned is left over to live on, even if the basic costs of living are somewhat higher. More on this later.

Mittlerweile hat die Regierung aber reagiert und investiert umfangreich in weitere Straßen sowie den Ausbau des öffentlichen Verkehrs. Aktuell sollte man aber definitiv noch die Hauptverkehrszeiten auf gewisen Routen vermeiden.
Building quality
Ein Punkt, der auf jeden Fall angeführt werden muss, ist die mangelnde Bauqualität in Dubai, vor allem im Vergleich zu zentraleuropäischen Ländern ist die durchschnittliche Qualität deutlich geringer. Aufgrund der Kritik wurde es in den letzten Jahren deutlich besser und es haben sich auch Bauträger herauskristallisiert, die diesen Bedarf nachkommen, jedoch ist die Qualität im Durchschnitt einfach schlechter.
Leisure activities

Gesetze
Einer der größten Unterschiede zum Leben in vielen europäischen oder westlichen Städten sind die Kultur und die Gesetze. Die VAE, darunter Dubai, haben gewisse Bereiche, in denen die Gesetze sehr hart geschrieben und auch umgesetzt werden. Dies ist mitunter auch der Grund, weshalb Dubai eine der sichersten und saubersten Städte der Welt ist. Die Kriminalität ist im Alltag kaum existent.
Nachfolgend ein Überblick an Straftragen und deren Strafen:
- Verbale Beleidigungen
Bis zu 5.000 AED oder 6 Monate Gefängnis bei öffentlichen Beleidigungen. Bei Beleidungen im Internet können die Strafen sogar 250.000 bis 500.000 AED betragen. - Rote Ampel überqueren
Die Strafe bei Autofahrern, die roten Ampeln ignorieren, liegt bei 1.000 AED und einer Konfiszierung des Autos für 30 Tage.
- Geschwindigkeitsübertretung
Fahren mit überhöhter Geschwindigkeit ist sehr teuer in den VAE. In Dubai zahlt man 300 AED bei Übertretungen von bis zu 20 km/h. Ab 50 einer Übertretung von 50 km/h 1.500 AED Strafe und das Auto ist für 15 Tage konfisziert. - Umweltverschmutzung
Leichte Umweltverschmutzung wie das am Boden werfen von Verpackungen führt zu einer Geldstrafe von 500 AED. Nicht ordnungsgemäße Müllentsorgung 1.000 – 5.000 AED. - Körperverletzung
Leichte Körperverletzungen ohne dauerhafte Schäden (20-Tage-Grenze) werden schon mit bis zu einem Jahr Haft und bis zu 10.000 AED Strafe geahndet. Je Schwere der Verletzung und Absicht, können die Strafen auch weitaus höher ausfallen. - Diebstahl
Abhängig von der Summe und Gewalt, die angewandt wird, variieren die Strafen stark. Einfacher Ladendiebstahl ohne Gewalt wird aber schon mit 6 Monaten Haft bestraft.
In der Praxis sollte man sich aber grundsätzlich keine großen Sorgen machen. Denn wer respektvoll mit seiner Umwelt und Mitmenschen umgeht, der wird derartige Probleme und Strafen auch nicht wahrnehmen. Dies waren nur Beispiele, um darzustellen, dass in den VAE auch kleinere kriminelle Aktivitäten schon hart bestraft werden.
Was aus Respektgründen dennoch vermieden werden sollte (und theoretisch strafbar ist auch wenn selten verfolgt) sind folgende Aktivitäten:
- Küssen in der Öffentlichkeit
- Keine Speisen öffentlich konsumieren während Ramadan
- Gebetshäuser nur bekleidet besuchen
- Alkoholkonsum in der Öffentlichkeit außerhalb von Restaurants, Klubs, Hotels oder der eigenen Wohnung bzw. Haus. (Parks, Promenaden…)
