Dubai Residence Visa: Requirements, procedure & costs

If you want to emigrate to Dubai, you need an appropriate residence visa (Residence VISA). But what is the best way to get one, what requirements do you need to fulfill and how much does it cost? All the answers to these questions in this comprehensive guide. 

What is the Residence Visa?

The Residency VISA is quite simply the residence visa for Dubai or the UAE. As an EU citizen, you are only allowed to stay in the UAE for 90 days at a time. After that you have to leave the country. The tourist visa can be issued on arrival at the airport. If you want to stay in the UAE for the long term or travel to Emigrate to Dubai would like to travel, you need a Residency VISA. 

Prerequisites

In principle, there are various ways to obtain a residence visa, as there are different types of VISA as described above. The requirements differ accordingly. However, the following is an overview of the most important and most popular categories.

  • Job If you are employed by a company, you will receive a so-called Employment VISA. The company where you are employed provides this. A job is therefore the key to a residence visa for many people.

Procedure

The procedure for obtaining the VISA varies greatly depending on which VISA you choose. If you set up a company, you must of course do this first, or if you go down the investment route for the Golden VISA, you must of course make and provide proof of this first. 

However, apart from meeting the individual requirements, there is one essential part that is the same for everyone. This can be broken down into the following 3 steps.

Medical Check

The medical check is a short test that must be carried out in Dubai. This involves a lung X-ray and a blood test. This is primarily to rule out highly infectious sexually transmitted diseases or polio. This is not a problem for most Europeans. 

There are numerous facilities for this in Dubai and we always accompany our customers personally. 

The test itself, including the waiting time, takes a maximum of 30 minutes and you will receive the result in a maximum of 3 hours. 

Emirates ID Application

With the positive "FIT" result, you can then apply for an Emirates ID at a typing center. The Emirates ID a key document in the UAE, which is linked to the VISA. It is an identity card in cheque card format and enables all business activities to be carried out in Dubai. Biometrics

The completed form is then taken to biometrics. This is where the biometric data (fingerprints) linked to the Emirates ID are taken. It serves as a digital signature and ensures that the Emirates ID can only be used by one person. 

Upon completion, the Emirates ID will be printed and delivered to the applicant. 

Costs

The costs for the entire process depend heavily on whether you hire an agency or carry out the entire process, including all official channels, yourself. In the case of the latter, you can generally expect costs of around €500 - €750 depending on the desired processing time. If you book VIP, you will get faster processing. 

Summary

The Residence VISA enables permanent residence in the UAE. However, there are various ways and means of obtaining this. Most people choose employment through a company (or their own) or the purchase of a property. Depending on the type of VISA, you can then live in the UAE for 2 years with the possibility of an extension, provided you still meet the requirements.

On site, you may have to complete a medical test, apply for an Emirates ID and record biometrics (once).
